My first thought was that the tree was struck by lightning, which killed it. When a red oak tree in my neighborhood was struck by lightning, all the leaves changed from red to brown, since the tree was dead. Shortly after that, it was cut down.
Vancouver, B.C: ? I’m sorry to hear about that. I hope the trees are preserved. There is a new method in practice to protect the trees from developers. They actually surround them with a fence and tape with a warning not to cut them.
