Phoenix wasn’t the best. A friend of my son’s had problems with an ex-wife and the idiots let her attorney’s get his service dog taken.

Much to my surprise and chagrin, Sheriff Arpaio, yes, that nut, actually stepped up, took the dog, and got it back to him! So even the craziest may do some things right?

But still, I’ve been satisfied that far more in VA than the Pentagon are on the side of our troops.

The Secretary of VA is a veteran himself without a leg he lost in Viet Nam…no one want to serve the veterans more…it is the SES (Senior Executive Service) people who did not serve that are the problem.

The problem is the budget. The VA is constantly trying to cut corners. I have been trying to get an appointment in cardiology and urology departments for almost a year. No luck so far.

Simple solution, fire all the featherbed merchants and hire only those who have served.

mikefive: when my son told me what happened, I realized again that outside perhaps Congress, divorce attorneys are the worst scum of the Earth. The claim was their kid “missed the dog”, and her lawyer was a putz. The VA staff just screwed up, as did the sheriff’s deputy who went in to get the dog. (Which was how Joe could step in.)

Also btw, the dog was acquired for the guy by the Wounded Warrior Project!!

Veteran’s Affairs care should be available ONLY to veterans who have service-related injuries or conditions (such as PTSD or exposure to chemicals), If that were the case, the hospitals would be adequately funded on the current budgets to give the proper treatment to those veterans who deserve it. Those who spent three or four years in the military and were healthy when they got out should provide for their own medical care.

^One of the major jobs the VA has is giving geriatric care to those “Cold War” vets, and a lot of us ’Nam vets are getting well into that age bracket. I happen to know a number of them who had no combat experience, nor served during time of war, and who do NOT have any service connected conditions, who are getting meds and care.

That elder care adds hugely to the treatment of Iraq and Afghanistan vet as a financial crises in VA.

Which, it’s also about getting docs, not just documents to handle the flood. When my daughter was nursing in the states at a non-VA hospital, she said for long term care, the VA hospital was excellent as far as staff, as was the majority of their program, but do NOT go to the Emergency Room their, as though they had equipment up the ying-yang, they didn’t have enough qualified staff to run it.

It IS about PEOPLE caring for PEOPLE, not just caring about bucks.
