There was a time when France was “La Fille Ainée de l’Église” (The eldest daughter of the (catholic) church), but hose days pretty much ended with the French Revolution that saw the persecution of priests, Napoleon was quite “meh” on religion and the last three kings of France never manage to make religion the political tool it once was in their arsenal.
