Not every job is exactly equal. The women in my office make more than I do. Our workloads are slightly different with the same job title. I wouldn’t mind seeing their pay reduced down to my level as I am male and have more seniority.

Jen would like everybody to make a government-approved, guaranteed wage of 100k a year. Oh and fuzzy kittens at every desk.

If you control for time off for kids (by studying women without kids), or for women in PRECISELY the same jobs (as, famously, Lily Ledbetter at Firestone), you STILL find that women are paid less men for the same work. Statisticians “control for” such variables all the time in their studies, and this area has been studied quite comprehensively for decades. The paycheck fairness act is long overdue, and there’s no good reason to be against it (except that the status quo benefits rich company owners, usually men, and because the GOP gets traction with its base through pure dickishness).

It’s ALREADY a violation of labor law to not allow employees to speak about their salaries. The AP had an article about it last fall.

This is just another ruse perpetrated by a failing president for Democratic votes.

When they ask you for what you got paid at the last job, ask “why?”
