There is nothing wrong with working the same theme over and over and over and over again. However, to be effective a running gag has to be broken up with other humor and re-released when least expected.
There is nothing wrong with this humor, except that in this context it is predictable.
I tend to keep punchlines “in stock” and pull them out when someone gives me a good straight line – sometimes years later. Some of these might come in handy.
