Holly: Alix...? Did you hear that?!
Alix: Hear what?
Holly: A noise! Coming from the kitchen!
Alix: Maybe...
Alix & Holly: WHO'S IN THERE?!
Biscuit: There's somebody IN here??
I used to make sure all the lights were on and the TV was on to hopefully scare away any burglars. In todays world even having an alarm has no effect, they just kick down the door and come right on in.
Yes, I remember those days also. I guess it helped that I was a latch key kid starting in junior high school, so I was somewhat comfortable being at home (during the day). The scariest times were when I bought my own house and was there alone. At least being in my parents’ house felt safe because others were looking out for me and it was more familiar.
Yes, I recall how anxious I’d get, even as a late-in-teens person, on the rare occasions when my mom was out. I’ve never lived alone – went straight from mom’s house to marriage. Geez.

Aha! Some"body" has been in the kitchen trash can…secretly, Biscuit thought… But, Holly and Alix don’t know that! This is only going to get better! ;)

Why do Val and her daughters even bother having a dog if it’s sometimes rarely noticed?

“Nobody here but us dogs…”
Lucy (Lucille Désirée Ball) said that once.

I’d never been alone at night until hubby had to go out of town for a week. Sort of prepared me for later when he’d passed on and I was alone.

What if there is somebody else lurking that neither the girls nor Biscuit know about?
