Never understood the humor of Punch & Judy.

For centuries, children around the world have enjoyed Punch & Judy. Today, they won’t show a Bugs Bunny cartoon on TV unless it’s been properly “sanitized” (i.e., censored).

According to Wikipedia, the violence in Punch and Judy shows was the subject of concern even back in the Victorian era—Charles Dickens wrote a letter in support of it, believing that it did not contribute to juvenile delinquency. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punch_and_Judy

I used to host puppet shows as special programs at the public library. Considering how hard the kids laughed at broad physical slapstick I remember thinking that a Punch and Judy show (were it not sending a bad message) would have had them rolling in the aisles. I’m not recommending bringing the show back, just that I understand why it’s been so popular with young children for so long.

If you read the original fairy tales, you will soon realise that the bland, Disney animations with singing teapots, and dancing mice, bear hardly any resemblance to the violent cautionary stories thay used to be.
