it would be nice to have someone(other than my Wife) to get something for on Mother’s Day but sadly both my Mother’s(Natural and Adoptive) have passed away and my dear Mother-In-Law has also left us. I miss not having someone on that day ! ! !
For us hubby’s mom died 17-years-ago age 88. My mom is very much alive and active at 89. Due to few restaurants going up in price Mother’s Day we did ours Sunday. Mother’s Day will be cake and icecream. May have hubby BBQ.I do not want flowers. A nice homemade card with two sweet dogs will be okay.
“Chicken”? This has me fearing a turn where there is the stereotypical instance of a kid shoplifting to get a gift, and then getting caught and having to learn the hard, but valuable lesson of how wrong it is to steal. I do not recall that being a story arc in FBOFW originally, and I do not recall Michael doing that. But, the “chicken” comment seems directed towards that sort of end.
He wanted to tell them that he was gay later on down the line…they didn’t expect it and his stepfather threw him out the house. He didn’t come back till the morning, Michael had gone out to find him at a diner
Surely $2.65, even in 1985 money, could have bought at least one flower of some kind — if not a single rose, then maybe a tulip, lily, mum or daisy, perhaps??? At age 8 [or is it 9?], Michael can’t be expected to buy and give Elly an expensive bouquet of red roses but I would think that most any kind of a flower [along with a home-made card] for Mother’s day would be very much appreciated by her. Anything that says “I love you and I’m so glad you’re my mom!” would most certainly make her day. As the saying goes: it’s the thought that counts!
I know that Canadians put an extra “u” in words like “color”, “honor” and so forth, but I have checked other words like “comics”, “bargain”, and both Canada and the United States have the same words. Lynn Johnston is a notoriously bad speller. Somewhat ironic as Elly pecks at the kids about minor grammatical issues.

My father (widowed) suggested to give my stepmother just a card if I can’t think of anything else.

I like flowers, but it’d be nice if my son will be able to be here on Mother’s Day… ;)

I would like to see my daughter, grandson and great-granddaughter for mother’s day, but doubt it will happen.

Uh, oh, when someone calls you “chicken” that is definitely a challenge! You could buy mom a single nice red rose with a little “kid saved” money.

If I remember correctly, Michael said 3 super comic books. Are those the same price?

My best mother’s day was when my husband took the two boys to town for the day. I was pregnant but thoroughly enjoyed my time to myself.

Actually, if I am remembering right, Lawrence only lives with his mother. The back-story on his father is given “years” from “now”… ;)
