Putin is fortunate his nation has oil, otherwise, he would be slowly becoming the next North Korea; a nuclear power that is more dangerous to those next to him than to any other place in the globe. Because Russia supplies Europe with a large portion of the oil it uses, and because of the nuclear arsenal, the world is treating him gently, but too many people remember Eastern Europe under the Soviet Umbrella and patience will be limited. It is too bad that our own behaviors overseas have removed the moral authority we once had in such instances. Real or imagined, we were once able to call aggressors out without them pointing behind our backs at major mistakes like Iraq and our secret wars in Pakistan and Somalia. When people decide the ends desired are worth the means used, they often fail to reach the desired end result and also give permission to other nations to use our own actions elsewhere.Respectfully,C.
The UN is useless. It is an excuse for Third World despots and other useless scum to come to New York and party with immunity from arrest. It serves NO useful political purpose, has ZERO credibility, and NO political power whatsoever.
“Given the UN’s opposition to the Iraq war was based solely on the seven figure bribes in the pockets of Kofi Annan’s son”Yeah, it had absolutely nothing to do with knowing the “evidence” presented was falsified and untrustworthy.
“…… Our allies are upset and frustrated with Obama’s lack of leadership……”.No they’re not. They are relieved there are no loose cannon neocons around making critical decisions, who think all problems are solved with guns and bombs.

yes, the UN is useless. Actually worse than useless. They are a hazard to freedom and human rights.

Two suggestions to contain Putin:
1) close the straights of Basra to Russian military traffic 2) Admit Ukraine into NATO.

Gosh, if only we had stood up to Putin when he first invaded. Those troops are still in Georgia, right?

Question for the Fox “news” viewers: What was the Fox “news” position when Putin invaded Georgia?
