I dropped in, basically, and took my SAT without any prep. My scores were sufficient to get me out of taking a couple of classes. Some of that was real knowledge, and some of it is the ability I gained through years of schooling to be good at taking tests. It was back in the early 80s, and the total possible scores have been adjusted over and over since then. I suspect that even a perfect score from then would look mediocre in today’s numbers.

I agree. Essays can be subjectively graded. Had that same experience TTM.
