Putin does have a point about the Crimea. The have a major navel base and the area was given to the Ukraine. It has been peaceful so far even though it is a violation of international law. The EU will be reluctant to act because Russia has significant resources in UK banks and supplies one third of natural gas to Germany. Economic sanctions will be a little tricky. Certainly we are not about to invade and violate international law as we have often done in the recent past.

So was “We’re out to get the bad guy who attacked us. Well, after we abandon the effort to settle a personal vendetta elsewhere.”

Remember when Ike sent the National Guard in to maintain peaceful transition at a school? Hmm, that didn’t go well when another guy did it at Kent State…

Let’s hope we shut up about Crimea, push for a better solution involving the EU and Russian interests to the north, and keep our noses out of anything further.

There was not always a Russian majority in the Crimea & the Ukraine. The Tatars who populated the region for centuries were booted out by Uncle Joe so that Russians could move into this fertile, warm land. (They did almost the same thing to the Baltic states of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania; Because of the higher standard of living, and access to the Baltic Sea, Russians moved there in hoards)
