I’m sure it’s somewhere under that layer of fast food wrappers, styrofoam cups & smog. In the meantime, we need to dig more coal & build another pipeline, because I’m not setting the thermostat to 68 or trading my F-150 for a hybrid.
“A typical liberal exaggeration. We are in NO danger of losing the planet. Turning it into a near uninhabitable desert is NOT ‘losing’ it. In any case, the ‘right’ people will survive, because that is what they do: take care of themselves. And losing everyone, and everything, else is no loss at all.” (The above sentiments were heard while listening to the thought implicit in the opinions of some people.)
The idea of a back up planet is a dream. The nearest one they have found that might be habitable is 15+ light years away. It would take 13117500 years to travel that distance at the speed of sound. And, we might be able to build ships that will enable a small number of humans who are descended from the original occupants to reach that planet millions of years in the future. Whereupon, if it’s an inhabitable planet, there is a good chance that the inhabitants will blow them out of their sky.Or perhaps we will invent warp speed. Granted, it’s science fiction, but so were computers 50 years ago. But, here’s a novel idea. How about we just use about one tenth of the scientific knowledge and human ingenuity that all that getting to a back up planet would require to keep from destroying the planet that we already have.
DLee4144: Computers are considerably older than 50 years. Einac is older than that. Goliath is older than Einac. Babbage’s differencing machine, programed by Ada is older than Goliath. The abacus is over 2,000 years old. And throughout most of human history, computer (in some language or other) was a human. I cannot speak for the preliterate who, by definition, left no written records and insufficient artifact ones.
Maybe we should start spending more on space exploration and getting off this planet. It might be a good thing if we became the cockroaches of the universe!

Planets couldn’t care less about whatever plant or animal life happens to be on them. They’re so selfish that way……..
