A couple thousand construction jobs, tops, and they’re temporary (and mostly Canadian). A dozen or so “watchdogs” so that when (not if) the pipeline starts to leak, it will be found and plans will be made to eventually do something (don’t believe me? Educate yourself about the tons of pollution laden spills into the Dan River in North Carolina and the intransigence of Duke Power—and the NC governor, who was a Duke Power employee for 28 years—to do anything about it.)
Tar-pit oil is the hardest to clean up, and our “representatives” have rewritten pollution and Superfund laws to make it so that anyone who spills need not be bothered to clean it up or pay for others to do so. Ask those people in Arkansas whose neighborhoods were over-run by that same type of oil several months ago. “Move along. Nothing to see here.”
The State Department says no significant environmental impact to build the pipeline. I agree. But it will leak/break, and THAT was not included in the report.
Okay, so no jobs, and oil will get into the largest aquifer that feeds America’s breadbasket of farms in the Midwest. So what do we gain? Cheap oil? No, that oil will go to a refinery in Texas to be shipped to China for sale. The refineries will make money. The average American gets the shaft.
But what a symbol of the awfulness of Mr. Obama’s presidency! Keep saying that over and over.
I like the alternative…. The solar bird frier they built in California that also is destroying habitat for endangered species and is going to make Californians pay triple what they now pay for energy.$2.2 billion could have gone for something that actually worked..Keystone makes sense. N2N+H makes sense too. Solar and wind do not.
But where in Calif. are they going to get the water to wash those mirrors. I have solar and know that after a month the power generation starts to drop if the panels aren’t cleaned.
The people who are screaming for this pipeline are the ones who have the most incredibly selfish, gluttonous and wasteful consumption habits. More More More!!!!
If people had efficient and intelligent driving habits and consumption habits, we could cut energy usage in half overnight.
