    Aaahhhhh!….. There ya go!… Some days, Luann is “wine” (buncha boy problems), some days just juice (as sweet as can be)…. and any other type of liquid fit for consumption that one could think of… And just like any of us, we can only hold but so much, at one time, but we come badk at another time to keep enjoying the drink… -And this is why Bern reacts as she does, and this is the true nature of their relationship. “You take the good and the bad, and you put ’em both together, and there you have…. a comic strip!….”

    @Mikeyj

    Impressive makeover, MikeyJ! But doesn’t Bernice have brown eyes?*Earlier this week Levi said Mr. Evans sent him an autographed copy of the first Luann comic. Has Mr. Evans ever done the same for you, since you are obviously so talented and good-humored? (Levi couldn’t have been pulling our legs, could he?)^^Thx, I really don’t know what colour eyes Bernice has, I can’t recall Greg mentioning it, I do know that Luann has hazel eyes. When I look at Bernice, I see her as having blue eyes; I’ve always liked the contrasts of dark hair and light eyes, or, light hair with dark eyes, as opposed to the more common brown/black hair, brown eyes or blonde hair with blue eyes. Basically, I took Bernices original split bangs, kept the headband from the original makeover (By Tiffany) and kept the crimped hair (Also from the Tiff make-over), but made it softer and more feminine… Now, this is my own personal idea on how Bern might be made over, but, if Greg wanted to use it, I would be honoured (hint hint).As for getting a signed pic, I’ve never asked for one, so, why would he send me one?

    -Screw political correctness-The terminology ‘B.C’ (Before Christ) and ‘A.D.’ (Anno Domino, in the Year of Our Lord) were not replaced by B.C.E. (Before the Common Era) and C.E. (Common Era) because of political correctness,-These terms were used by western archaeologists for dating purposes. As the field has expanded and digging is now taking place in the Far East and other places where the use of dates pertinent to Christianity really do not have a meaning, professional archaeologists changed their terminology so communication with Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and other scientists would not be confusing.

    The amount of hatred poured out on this site toward Luann is equal to the amount poured out toward Elly on ‘For Better or For Worse’, and now even toward the character ‘Nancy’ in the cartoon Nancy. It has constantly amazed me that people who clearly dislike women or girls (unless those characters are clearly acting as these posters feel women should) spend any time reading these comics. I don’t find this level of hatred on other sites, so I have to wonder what it is about this particular site that seems to draw so many who hate women and girls?

    -Example number one:-“All those years Bernice just hung out ignoring Luann’s babbling. If Bernice was a glass most of Luann’s words ran down the sewer”-It is rare to describe someone as ‘babbling’ and suggest that most of their words ‘ran down the sewer’ if the feeling held toward that person was a feeling of tolerance of a fault. That kind of language is used to describe the speech of someone who is seen as despicable.-Example Number Two:-" there’s selfish, and then way, way below that, there’s Luann. Also Luann’s portrayed as a moron in the last strip"-No one describes a person as ‘way, way below selfish’, or a ‘moron’ if they don’t think of the person they are describing as hateful.-I keep asking posters why they read something they clearly dislike, and I’ve asked you the same thing. It honestly puzzles me. I consume mystery books and have favorite writers, but when the writers stop producing good stories, or turn out characters (whether good guy or bad guy) who don’t provide enough interest to make someone keep turning pages, I quit reading those writers.-I don’t visit those writers’ websites and post angry words about how they aren’t doing a good job of writing, or how awful their story lines or characters are. I just move on to another writer. After all, other readers not only don’t agree, but why should I rain on their parades by dumping a lot of anger when I can just replace it by reading something I like?

    Mostly that monster didn’t care, he just attacked them for political reasons.Most of the killings were caused by subordinated talking him into such Solutions.I am reminded of the Poles approaching the German conquerers and asking if it would be permitted to kill the Jews. They WANTED to do it.Lots of hatred going around back then, not just one man without whom all would have been sweetness and light..For all our many faults, we are better than that now, maybe they are too.

    -I am also puzzled about your use of the term ‘imperial’. There are many critics of the US who call it an imperialistic nation, but I find that difficult to understand. In past, the imperial powers (such as Greece in its time, Rome, Byzantium, England) existed by assuming a total superiority over other peoples and nations who were regarded as unequal, and in need of being ‘ruled over’. -I am fearful that the current action of Russia is one such effort. However, this is not the same as declaring war on a nation because it is alleged to represent a threat of some kind. When the Taliban were given safe haven in Afghanistan to carry out an attack on New York City, the US did have a right to go after the Taliban. Having achieved that objective, though, the US did not see how to extract itself and is still trying to figure it out. But I don’t see the US as trying to take over and ultimately run Afghanistan.-So please, can you tell me how the US is an imperialistic power in such an instance? Cause I really don’t understand how you see us that way.

    And just to get back to today’s strip, here’s what I saw when I looked at it. In the first frame, Luann is acknowleding that she and Bernice do have a kind of sister-like relationship, since they’ve ‘poured out’ their stories to each other over the years. That is something sisters might do, even if they don’t particularly agree with each other’s actions.-Bernice, on the other hand, tells Luann that it is Luann who has done the pouring, while she herself (Bernice) has mostly been the recipient, the ‘glass’. To me, the telling point is frame two, where Bernice may not have anticipated Luann’s reaction. Instead of Luann saying ‘we BOTH poured out our stories’, Luann is thanking Bernice for being that glass, and, with lowered eyelids (thus joking) is saying that Bernice’s counsel has helped her to become the ‘perfect person’ she is. Bernice’s face, to me, looks like she is both surprised and maybe a bit worried. She is surprised that Luann didn’t just insist that they both talked about their concerns (although, in fact, they have), and also a bit worried that Luann is thanking her even if facetiously for being such a good counselor (NOT for making her a perfect person).-I am fairly certain that Bernice knows Luann is joking about being perfect, but also, Bernice knows that she has often criticised Luann both to her face and behind her back. And supposedly a good counselor might provide you with constructive criticism to your face, but probably shouldn’t be telling everyone what a mess you are behind your back.-And this is my opinion of today’s strip!

    When Luann uses the term “perfect”, she knows she’s not perfect, she is using it in a way to compliment Bernice, but also to “fish for a compliment”. Not an outright one, but one employed, per the flow of the conversation. -She was involved in a comic and fictional point to develop comedy, mainly “leaving yourself open” or “walking into one”, which Greg has done with her, as can be experienced in reading “Luann Againn”… Note some of the conversations she has had with her brother, when their beds were sharing the same wall and they could talk to each other from their respective rooms, as they lay in bed for the night….

    “Not being an open bigot is wrong”?Being an open bigot is right?Well, I guess it’s more honest than doing it in secret.Being a secret bigot is wrong?Surely that is correct, being any kind of a bigot is wrong. On the other hand, you don’t infect others if you keep it on the down-low, so if you insist on being a bigot, it would be better to keep it to yourself.?So why do you want to be any kind of bigot?.Who was the bigot under discussion, anyway?Not somebody you made up again, was it?You really should abandon bigotry, it’s really bad to be..Find joy and happiness as Luann did under Bernice’s guidance.

    Common Era (also Current Era1 or Christian Era2), abbreviated as CE, is an alternative naming of the traditional calendar era, Anno Domini (“in the Year of Our Lord”, abbreviated AD).3 4 BCE is the abbreviation for Before the Common/Current/Christian Era (an alternative to Before Christ, abbreviated BC). The CE/BCE designation uses the year-numbering system introduced by the 6th-century Christian monk Dionysius Exiguus, who started the Anno Domini designation, intending the beginning of the life of Jesus5 to be the reference date.67 Neither notation includes a year zero,8 and the two notations (CE/BCE and AD/BC) are numerically equivalent; thus “2014 CE” corresponds to “AD 2014”, and “399 BCE” corresponds to “399 BC”.

    The expression “Common Era” can be found as early as 1708 in English,9 and traced back to Latin usage among European Christians to 1615, as vulgaris aerae,10 and to 1635 in English as Vulgar Era. At those times, the expressions were all used interchangeably with “Christian Era”, with “vulgar” meaning “ordinary, common, or not regal” rather than “crudely indecent”. Use of the CE abbreviation was introduced by Jewish academics in the mid-19th century. Since the later 20th century, use of CE and BCE has been popularized in academic and scientific publications, and more generally by publishers emphasizing secularism or sensitivity to non-Christians.

    Actually, this part here is of note, too…

    The CE/BCE notation has been adopted by some authors and publishers wishing to be neutral or sensitive to non-Christians111213 because it does not explicitly make use of religious titles for Jesus, such as “Christ” and Domin- (“Lord”), which are used in the BC/AD notation, nor does it give implicit expression to the Christian creed that Jesus was the Christ.1114151617

    Among the reasons given by those who oppose the use of Common Era notation is that it is selective as other aspects of the Western calendar have origins in various belief systems (e.g., January is named for Janus),18 and claims that its propagation is the result of secularization, anti-supernaturalism, religious pluralism, and political correctness .192021

    BC…BCE & AD…CE nomenclature related to one commonly recognizable event (though it’s off by a few years). If you don’t like it, use the Hebrew calendar which began at the BIG BANG of creation in 3760 BC..Interesting that the creation of all things should be identified as a BIG BANG because that’s just what I imagine happened when all that God energy was translated into the mass of the universe!!
