It’s like attempting to scale to the highest peak, and just as you are getting out of breath, you then get to a part that looks like the summit, and then you start thinking of medals, and some other “junk”, and you get closer and closer, and you get to a place with a sign that you think commemorates your feat, and as you gtet within eyesight, it’s a sign that saaaays: -“Continued on next mountain…”

Luann is legally an adult. A completely clueless adult, but an adult. The premise of the strip has now achieved completion. It’s time to put the chairs on the table and turn out the lights on the strip after the characters all leave…

So, today Luann DeGroot is 18, but Luann Comic Strip is 29! I hope tomorrow elaborates upon what Rosa said about “Plan C.”

Has it ever been mentioned what Quill’s last name is? If it has, I don’t remember it…

Like some poster said earlier, Luann and Bernice must be in Bernice’s bedroom because the room is so neat and clean. If they are there then, Puddles must be at home… ;)

LOL, I remember saying the same thing to one of my friends when I turned 18 :) Everyone thinks they’ll automatically turn into an adult on their 18th birthday.

I actually remember what I was eating on March 17, of ‘85, when Luann first came out… It was a Pop Tart. it was “Brown Sugar”. 29 years later, I’m still trying to finish that Pop Tart….

It’s amazing what can happen in a matter of months— ending the high school era at the beginning of the calender year, while beginning the college era at the end… This comic is going through a transition to another plane of existence!

We actually do know what her birthday is. She had a party on her 16th. However, I don’t remember where the strip is.

Did everyone forgot what this indicates? Luann’s second comic strip in which she said ‘why can’t I have all my problems when I’m 18 and know everything?’

It’s great to look at that strip from 03-17-85! I like the way the layout is similar to today’s, even though the artistic style is now so much more refined compared to the basic drawing of the early years…

Luann may not be 18 yet, but close to it and contemplating it. A lot of 17 year olds think about turning 18 way before it happens. I’d like to see a party, too.

I’m eighteen several times over. I’ve known everything several times over. Currently I’m in an Ignorant Interlude….

I loved FBOFW when there were complex plots with plenty of character development; I looked forward to every day’s installment. When it reverted to a “daily gag” format, I still read it, but with minimum interest. It will be the same if this one does that. I hope it does not happen— I prefer that strips with well-developed characters should have continuing stories most of the time.

I don’t know how many people here read Arlo & Janis. Even though I don’t regard it as a great comic, it is a very good one. There is a great deal of thought in the daily jokes, but it is just more interesting to me when there are ideas that fill an entire week or two.

I’ve only begun to read this now, and someone has already mentioned this – that the first strip was issued 29 years ago, today. So actually Luann is 29 today. Of course she looks about 13 in the first strip. Would that make her 42?

It’s Monday so we start a new storyline whether we’ve resolved the last storyline or not.

Yes, it seems that today the Luann character is 18 and the Luann comic is 29. There has been a lot of speculation lately about Brad & Toni having custody of Shannon, whether by guardianship or adoption. This scenario could possibly take place sometime after the wedding. So, assuming it happens, wouldn’t it be something if Toni got pregnant at that point?

It’s only the beginning, LuAnn, only the beginning!!

Additionally, there seems to be a prevailing feeling of impending doom regarding Jonah. Of course, if Evans & Evans want to kill him off, no one can do anything about it!

Back to the past of the insecure thirteen year olds, on the floor, backs to the bed, wondering how the future will go and wondering why it isn’t happening now. Take the path of least resistance and waste the rest of your life wondering what your life would be like if only you chose another path. ~I thought Luann and Bernice were 17, but now practically all states require children to be at least five years old on the day they start kindergarten. Since their birthdays are in September, that would mean they are now 18.

“Penn” seems appropriate.

A few days ago, I read the Evans website where it was stated that there would be trauma and drama surrounding the Brad & Toni wedding. It seems reasonable to speculate that Jonah, Dirk or both may be involved in some way— the question is how things will happen…

I’m one who has commented on the idea of Brad and Toni adopting Shannon, not simply because I like the idea, but because it would let Brad send Toni a powerful message about his intentions as their marriage approaches. I don’t necessarily want Fishbait to be written out of the picture completely, but some of the things Shannon says leave me thinking he really isn’t being much of a parent. I’m thinking of when she told them (B&T) about being taken to parties where she always gets left in a bedroom and told not to come out.

Shannon, moreover, seems to be maturing and feeling less marginalized when she spends more time with Brad and Toni, and even with Luann.

For me, the dynamic with Brad, Toni and Shannon is much more interesting than the same-old-lame-old joke-a-day format with Gunther, Knute, TJ, Bernice, Crystal, Tiffany and Luann. They’re all just locked into the same one-dimensional roles they’ve been playing for years. Nothing changes with any of them and they never learn anything.

Delta, Quill and Rosa get comparatively less stage time, but they all seem to have actual purposes and goals. As such, they get used for contrast. They’re unsuitable as main characters in this strip. They’ll move on, maybe even soon.

Does this imply that Luann IS eighteen? Boy this opens up some previously unexplored, possibly illegal and certainly taboo story lines.

How old is Quill? He was a senior when he first arrived at Pitt, when Luann was a junior, and he’s done a couple more senior years since then (in Australia, and now back at Pitt again), so he’s at least 19, isn’t he? And is Gunther 18 yet? Will he get his driver’s license before he’s 21?

Ok, today is the birthday of the STRIP. I think Luann’s birthday itself is sometime in June. Right now Luann is kind of looking ahead. She’s thinking she’s almost 18 and should know everything by now and wonders why she doesn’t. She’s just reflecting on her childhood naivety.

-considering the neatness of it-but there’s a book on the floor. I don’t think Bernice would do that to a book….

I’m still disappointed that we don’t learn what ‘Plan C’ is for Rosa. I was thinking maybe it was ‘college overSEAS’, so she could do the volunteer work in a poor country that she seems to want to do…

I was hoping this senior year would last, in our time, a few years at least. There’s so much that had not yet been covered. But it does look like Team Evans is closing up the story lines of high school to move on.*Except, of course, for not mentioning Plan C, as we were teased on Saturday. A cliff hangar is one thing. Sadism is something else, Evanses!

Luann, it never gets beyond that point, really.

Exactly what are Luann’s “problems”? She now has a boyfriend (which has been by far her main concern in life up to this point), she owns a car, and she is in good financial shape due to her going to Pitt CC next year and, of course, due to her support by “MasterDad”. So what is she all mopey and whiney about? Maybe the fact that she has no job prospects when she finishes her “education” (or more accurately when she finishes being enrolled in school, since actually getting educated has never been high on her list of priorities)?

Guess so. You know what that means… She’s LEGAL! BTW, aren’t you supposed to know everything before you reach 18?

How weird is it when you are sitting at a family Bat Mitzvah and the reading is from Leviticus and you start thinking about some random guy who posts comments for Luann comic?

Yeah, otherwise, she’d be a “walking lollipop”, with those “jowls” and “cabeza”, Ha ha!

Basically, that’s what the majority of the holidays are….

The anniversary “day of the week that the strip was printed” itself fell on a Monday. This is probably the reason (along with the fact, I believe, that his first strips were the “black and white” weekday editions). Anything other than that, you’d have to ask Greg why he’d chosen this date to mark his own strip……

Folks, not to be a “party pooper” here, but are we certain that Lu is telling us she “did” turn 18, or simply that she’s musing about what it might feel like in the not so distant future, now? It may be, simply, that Greg was just trying to update the original strip which referenced that age.

Of course, I do hope that she actually has turned 18, since that would mean more interesting interactions with her parents, especially if she decides to stay with them for a little longer… :-)))

Many people over 60 still work. Such is the cursed fate of everyone who doesn’t properly prepare their Roth IRA. Retirement is no longer an age. It is an amount of money you have saved in your investments that you can live on indefinitely. If you think you’ll retire automatically simply because you are 65, you may look forward to spending your elder years as a Wal Mart Greeter.

That’s similar to a thought I had suggested a while back. – I had thought of a possible “dramatic” scenario similar to the “bygones be bygones” where someone will have been more nervous about their presence (Dirk and Grace) than either Brad or Toni would be. And then once people realized it was okay with the people getting married,then it would be considered “straightened out” and could maybe add to the joyfulness of the occasion…

Before I sign off: Here is why I am thinking Luann really Is 18. Look at all the past tense words she is using: “used to think,” “once I turned,” “and knew.” ;)
