@wndrwrthg: I fear what big business does with that info far more than what the government will do with it. And we know from experience that they don’t protect our information very well.
The fundamental problem is, when somebody has power, at one point or another, it will be abused. Not might be.Yah, maybe after the NSA finds out that one of theirs was spying on his neighbor because he thought his wife was sneaking out, the fellow will be fired. Maybe. But the damage is already done.
And then you have what I’m going to call “abuse creep”. It starts small, only a little bit of abuse, every now and again. But like anything else, you get accustomed to it. So then you abuse a little more. Then a little more.Especially in government, when there really isn’t any penalty for doing wrong. Heck, the voters send these guys back to office even after they plead guilty. I wouldn’t be surprised if one day they have to build a special prison so politicians can “govern” while serving time. Set up a little video conference room so they can vote on important issues, then go back to the cell.

Power corrupts. Ultimate power corrupts ultimately.

We have nothing to fear but fear itself, and the government has plenty of that now.
