Rethuglicans are at it again. Do (or don’t do) everything in order to make Obama fail. For years they had no problem raising the ceiling for their own Adminstration.

Leave out the captions, and you could put the donkey and the elephant together in that vise.

The job of the politicians is to give the American people the government they want.

What the American citizen seems to want is a government that will leave him alone to do whatever he pleases in all cases, while it: protects him from enemies foreign and domestic, enforces his ideas of morality on everyone but himself, helps him out of any difficulties that are not his own fault (and he never thinks they are his own fault), provides a first-class infrastructure, a healthy environment, a thriving economy in which he can prosper (if no one else), does nothing dishonorable illegal or unfair (at least to him), makes no other egregious mistakes, and pays for it all by taxing someone other than himself; all the while never letting the fact that we are still but a relatively small part of a big interconnected world have any effect whatsoever.

We, of course, won’t elect people who do not tell us that all this is possible, and when they (inevitably) fail to fulfill this “mission impossible”, we say it is all THEIR fault.

Do you understand how much of the budget is foreign aid? Do some research; I guarantee it’s far less than you think.

Clinton left a budget surplus. Bush put two wars on a credit card and crashed the economy. The debt has decreased since Obama was in office. If you disbelieve any of these facts, please look it up. You have a very distorted understanding of the situation.

Oh, c’mon politicians! Grow a backbone. Do what every family in the US does when too far in debt. Tighten your belts, go over the budget with a fine tooth comb…try harder to eliminate wasteful spending. Get the debt down NOW! Everyone else is doing it. Cut spending to the bone, and repay debts. Above all, stop spending!!!!!

“How about you cut the fraud, waste, and abuse in the government …” Republicans (and a shameful number of Democrats) insisted on fighting the most expensive war in history, chasing weapons of mass destruction that didn’t exist, while simultaneously fighting the second most expensive war in history, hunting a guy who was in another country. That was fine. But then you see senior citizens eating or poor people with their lights on and you wring your hands.

    @Night-Gaunt49

“Our Congress already do vote themselves raises and have perks that make them secular kings and queens. That needs to be reversed. Right now that is impossible.”

Yes indeed. I don’t think that’s quite what the trolls who keep flapping that quote at us mean, though.

Certainly, all the Big Boys have taken it to heart. BigOil, BigAg … They figured out early on that subsidies eliminated competition. That wasn’t good enough for them, though … even better to ship most of our industry off shore. That not only eliminated taxes and regulations and living wages for workers, it got the whole ugly mess out of sight out of mind. For the government, not the workers, but just keep singing the ‘too lazy to work’ song at them. Keep them cold and hungry, and they won’t be thinking about who the ‘lazy takers’ really are.

Only a fool thinks the fed govt is run efficiently now and can’t withstand cutbacks. We should NEVER raise the debt ceiling again. Can’t pay all the bills? So lay people off; trim expenses; anything but borrow more for our kids and grandkids to pay back. Some of them are certain to look back at what we’ve done to them and understand the reasons behind conservative principles. Hopefully we – if we live long enough – will see a major shift to the right then, so their kids & grandkids are spared..Anybody who ever got stuck in too much debt knows it was a bad idea, and that’s what we have to now, for the sake of our kids.

Stop assigning blame. Grow up. It’s everybody’s fault. It doesn’t matter! The ONLY thing that counts is what we do about it NOW.

In a way, you’re right. Average families cannot print money. The gov’t does, but sooner or later the dollar will become toilet paper. Borrowing long term is short sighted and stupid.People, blame doesn’t matter. ALL politicians are lying bleeps from the moment they take office, until the hogs are carried away from the trough and given a state funeral. Maybe it’s true that the gov’t isn’t the same as a family but the PRINCIPLE of belt-tightening would work. The pols are just to greedy to see reason, and should be term limited.

“FOX News routinely and regularly pulls a larger audience than all their combined competition put together…and all their combined competition generally spew the same pro-left message and spin, no matter what their “alphabet soup” name is…ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN, etc., etc. …”From another forum, but so ridiculously wrong I had to follow up. The O’Reilly Factor is Fox’s most watched program at nearly 2.4 million viewers. The Big Three networks have OVER 12 TIMES the viewers, with nearly 30 million tuning into the nightly news. Add in the fact that 66% of Fox viewers are over the age of 50, & you have a network with a gloomy long term future.Just another example of how Fox viewers wind up being misinformed.

With Republicans in control , 2001 – 2006, they (& Bush) only passed 3 budgets…and 2 more in 2007, with the Democrats in control of Congress…some insight into the Conservative Talking-Point you have repeated (Romney said it, too):

…and destroy Capitalism, that depends on people buying ‘stuff’ they are misguided into believing they need, even if they have to make “only 36 easy monthly payments…” ‘Course, if YOU were impacted by a ’disaster’, I’m sure you’ll be screaming for Gubmint HELP, deficit or no…and make it QUICK !

C’mon, if we (private families) don’t have money, we must budget. The gov’t does not have ANY income, but what they get from us. The gov’t MUST budget—-sooner or later. I’m only talking about holding the line, and maybe decreasing by 10%. Just cutting wasteful spending might be enough.

You know about credit? Well, you DO have to pay it back…and there are such things called credit limits. Taxes aren’t charity. They’re supposed to be each individual’s share of the expense of running the gov’t. People do run up debts, but if EVERYONE declared bankruptcy society would collapse. All I’m saying is that the more the gov’t OWES, the less stable our money is…and I’m terrified of what will happen if the piper wants to be paid, and we don’t have it. Surely, you see that the gov’t cannot keep spending us into bankruptcy?I just want the politicians to “rein-in” unnecessary spending. I refuse to believe that there isn’t SOME “fat” to cut.

yes, everyone. The ones who incurred the debt, and the rest who did not insist on watching out for the public’s purse. Both action and inaction…the politicians on both sides of this stupid argument —-all sides are to blame. And blame gets us nowhere near to a solution.

This puts me in mind of little kids finger pointing and screaming—You did it first! No, you did!

We all need to broker a solution. Agree with me? The gov’t consists of greedy leeches who stay in power for as long as they can. For their OWN sakes. And the lying twits do not care at all about us.
