masterskrain: Mostly it is because a majority of congress are addicts. Wonder if that is why pot is gaining legality instead of being a prescription item like most beneficial drugs. And we have to import hemp because some idiots can’t tell the the difference – analogous to unable to see the difference between a dachshund and an Irish wolfhound – they are the same species too.
Why would they? It isn’t illegal to grow your own tobacco for personal consumption but most people who use it don’t. The same is true with pot.If it were legalized companies like RJ Reynolds and Archer Daniels Midland would have the market cornered and the little p!$$ant growers would be shut out of the market just as they have been with tobacco.
Reductions in food stamps average $90 per month per family. This may translate into health problems later in life, as Vienna Sausages and Scrapple take the place of real food, so it may be penny-wise and pound-foolish. It would be better to determine who doesn’t need assistance and discontinue altogether, rather than reducing benefits for all, but that would take more work to accomplish.
Here’s an idea: let’s reduce the pay that goes to members of Congress $90 per month to pay for it. They’ll never miss it.
And the Corporate Welfare train continues unabated. If you think that food stamp recipients are the only “takers” in this country, you are sorely mistaken, and to the tune of millions of tax dollars.
Toles is not wrong about developing resistance, the way the new law is written, congressmen taking advantage of farm subsidies are invisible, they’ve become Cheshire Cats! Can you see their smiles?
We pay farmers NOT to grow certain crops, but it never seems to occur to Congress to pay factories NOT to produce certain products. (Whoops, forget I said that, now they’re bound to start!)

Read “Molly Ivins Can’t Say That, Can She?”Ms. Ivins was a reporter for the Dallas Morning News (or whatever they call their morning newspaper), and was assigned to the Texas State Legislature. The book is a collection of her articles; and they would be hysterical if they weren’t so serious.
Texas, at that time, and I don’t think it’s changed since, pays a couple thousand per year to their legislators. As a result, the only people who choose to run are clueless bubbas whose antics couldn’t be made up. The residents know it, but they won’t agree to raise the salaries because the clueless bubbas don’t deserve it, so the legislature remains worthless. Although your idea seems good on paper, things might actually get worse if we pay so little.
“And they should research and write their own bills. Not have an army to do it for them.”
True. And since you have shared that, I will share the reason for the name of the book. She noted about one legislator that if he were any more intelligent, they’d have to water him twice a day. His bubba friends contacted the newspaper threatening a boycott unless they fired her. The newspaper decided to make it into a marketing ploy and put up billboards all over town saying “Molly Ivins can’t say that, can she? Find out by reading our paper.”

Those lazy cats look like many of the freeloaders using their Food Stamp card at 7/11 for slurpees and hot dogs!

The biggest problem California farmers face is drought and freezing temperatures.
