One of the best Oliphants of the year, and thus one of the best editorial cartoons of the year! A truly inspired idea, beautifully executed. It ought to be hung up on the walls of every televangelist’s mansion!

What?! I may not be a Christian but I know that Jesus never wanted to be a Pharasee or seen as some other sort of deified entity who was head or part of an organize church like the Catholic one.

Isn’t it sad that the extremists are all in a panic because the Pope is telling us to live like Christ? They are calling him a ‘Marxist’ instead of a Christian. And that is all you need to know about them.

He made peter head of the church. This I what evolved. Warts and all. If all you see are warts you’ll never hear the message. And everyone left behind had warts.

I find it odd that Joseph, if that’s him, had a halo over his head when he and Mary frist arrived. Now Joseph has no halo but Mary still has her’s. I wonder why?

Oliphant has found some one new to idolize. For now. Liberals love the Church’s economics because it has a distributive philosophy—give to the poor while keeping a nice bit for yourself. But the Church also believes that we have souls, leading to certain inevitable positions upon things like abortion and euthanasia. And to liberals, being pro-life is akin to being pro-slavery. This doesn’t seem to bother American Catholics however since all the prominent ones not actually in the priesthood seem to be fervent advocates of abortion. (Just to be sure I make everyone mad, I support abortion myself, but I’m not a Catholic.)

In the Christian tradition he should get a halo because he acceded to God’s will to be the earthly father of a child that was not his. Too many step-fathers, boyfriends, significant others could learn from his acquiescence.

I don’t believe his intention was to become a communist liberation theologian

Behave, now. Pat is 78 years old and has been drawing since the mid-1950s. I’ve enjoyed his cartoons since the mid-1960s. How many thousands has he drawn by now? Soon enough, he’ll be gone as are Mauldin and Herblock. Enjoy him while you can..If you want to know some of what it once took to break into the cartooning business, read THE BRASS RING, by Bill Mauldin.
