Religious people who say they “don’t hate the sinner, they hate the sin” are ignoring human nature. When someone does something that is considered bad, he or she is viewed as being bad. Bad people are feared and should be punished. Saying homosexual acts are bad is basically saying that homosexuals are bad and should be feared and punished. This kind of ‘hate’ mongering should be exposed as such. And yes it should be shown as not being acceptable.
He made a comment based on a couple of passages. I didn’t see him railing against other biblical teachings with are freely disregarded by the vast majority of Christians.

He spoke from HIS heart. What he personally believes. For that you may crucify him on any cross you choose, remembering that when you do so you create a martyr and spread his message, rather than ignore it and let die an ignominious death.
