Ain’t it funny that the Republicans and their enablers in the Corporate Press are constantly trying to slime President Obama with the scandals and mistakes of prior Republican administrations. Read the dates on the documents that Snowden has leaked. So far almost all of them are programs dating before the President was ever sworn in. So that means that for the last 6 months the Press has been raking him over the coals for the actions of George W. Bush.
Senators Wyden and Udall have long challenged “abuses” of law by security agencies, and I agree. Interesting that such “conservatives” as as Kristol defend the policies on one hand, while still criticizing Obama for doing “SOP” activities that HAVE been going on FOR DECADES.
as to “metadata”, does it belong to the individual, or the phone/internet providers? Actually, the providers, until actual conversations are tapped.
As to Nixon, my dad was in business with this brother, Don, who overall was a nice guy. Dick however WAS A CROOK, and an incident resulting from that was why my dad left the partnership! My biggest gripe with Nixon was he continued the Viet Nam war with Kissinger for far longer than necessary, to profit “certain folks”. He DID sign some significant and valuable legislation, like NEPA, for which “conservatives” hated him, interesting dichotomy indeed!!
^So you admit it was “W” who personally killed over 5,000 of our troops in two wasted wars, and several hundred thousand civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, and is responsible for all the drone deaths he set in motion!
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Regardless of good intentions. Recent book, which title I forget, depicts how our CIA, since the time of Truman, has obfuscated, deceived, and incompetently managed our foreign “intelligence” programs.
I think there is a connection between domestic spying and income inequality. When the Forbes 400 own as much as the bottom 60%, up 20% in just the last seven years and rising there is going to be trouble. The one percent will be getting nervous because there are lots of other Timothy McVeighs out there who will be starting to think that the government is the beast. Perhaps he was just a bit premature.
