That’s funny. Cats especially, get skittish if they see a rolled-up newspaper in your hand.

I ended up with an older dog that had been abused. She would low crawl away when she saw the broom.

My dog cowers all the time. She has never been hit, kicked or swatted. She is treated very well, sleeps on our bed and is very spoiled

The only time I ever hit our cat was when she’d gotten up on the mantle where she knew she shouldn’t be (we had a cut glass vase up there that we got as a wedding gift).

You shouldn’t roll a newspaper unless you’re prepared to use it!

While I would never think of using corporal punishment on pets or kids, a spray bottle of water does come in handy sometimes. (for the pets, not the kids)
