Two children had their fight interrupted by their mother.“Billy!” she admonished “You apologize to your sister for calling her stupid.”Billy looked at his mother, then his sister and said.“I’m sorry you’re stupid, sis.”(courtesy of a Boy’s life joke I read in the 60s)^Courtesy and respect is more and more rare whether you are in an office setting, a public setting, or making comments on political forums. It has simply become much easier to insult your way to an advantage than it is to have an actual discussion and seek a way to put out the fires that works for the most people. We have done better in the past, and with civility and patience, we can do so now.Respectfully,C.

I disagree, NFL.Several times a year, people in prison are executed with as much courtesy and respect as can be given in such circumstances. If civility can take place in such extreme circumstances, sometimes with the condemned knowing his/her innocence of the specific crime of which they are accused, why can we not expect more of the educated and allegedly intelligent men and women leading our nation. We could however start here, in the GC forums, by setting an example of civility and intelligent discourse that is lacking in both parties and amongst too many of our fellow citizens.Obama is not evil. He’s just not good at his job. I can name others, but Obama will be with us tomorrow, and we can only work to change how things will happen tomorrow. Today is almost done, and yesterday is lost to the analysis of history.I’m curious. Have written to the President, your senators, your Representative, or your state officials who ran for office in your district? Those are the minds we need to reach. I fear too many of the minds with whom we speak in this forum have their minds made up.Respectfully,C.

The answer to all of your questions, Mr. Snare, is – Yes.Just as the rules of conduct in the Congress require, even demand, members speak with cordiality if not respect, it is incumbent upon those who lead us at any level to do so by example. Sadly, they too often choose to use fear, divisiveness, and lies to manipulate opinion and prevent neighbors from speaking to one another with civility and respect. TV and movies almost always show the bad guy as the loudest and most verbally virulent person we see. They are typically self centered and egocentric and either apathetic or scornful of those who are not ‘at their level’.Respectfully,C.

Sorry, NFL.My disagreement was with your implication courtesy was impossible with the current POTUS. Courtesy is always possible. And I agree with you on transparency in the White House over the past two administrations.Windows in London during the evening blitzkriegs had more transparency and light revealed than what we’ve seen over the last 12 years.Sadly,C.
