I’m glad he shook hands with Raul Castro, especially at Mandela’s funeral. Courtesy does not equate to policy and despite ongoing acts of oppression in Cuba, Raul has shown himself to be less oppressive than his brother. And sadly, as long as we are holding prisoners on Cuba, too do less than shake hands would be hypocritical. I look forward to the day that Americans can travel to Cuba. My daughter’s in laws were born there. Their parents have been imprisoned for religious and political reasons several times over the decades, but I have seen some remarkable pictures of a beautiful island. Nothing democratizes faster than tourism.Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t one of the big holdups to normalizing relations the fact that the Cubanos who left Cuba when Castro took power are demanding to get their familys’ property back? Your description fits absolutely zero liberals that I know. To be fair, many liberals’ descriptions of conservatives are equally mean-spirited and off-base, and not correctly descriptive of any conservatives I have met.
