Skunks spray very pungent scent glands when threatened. The purpose of a de-skunker is (apparently unknown to the man in the cartoon) intended to wash the smell of that sprayed scent from clothing, pets, etc.

I haven’t smelled skunk in years. Are they becoming a threatened animal?

Hydrogen Peroxide is what works to kill the odor…

Equal parts dish washing liquid, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Works like a dream and pretty much instantly. My dog took a direct hit because he was too curious and wouldn’t listen to me call him back. (The skunk was up near the house) It took longer to deodorize the inside of the house than it did the dog. Ha Ha

Simple answer: she told him to “wash the skunk off” and he misunderstood what she meant.

I caught one in a live trap this summer, so I just opened the trap door and he ambled out and unhurriedly went his way across the yard. I’ve never had a problem with skunks, they usually seem rather amiable if you don’t startle or threaten them.

    Remember, skunks are not squirrels.
