Priests claimed the Christ’s birth around the winter solstice to gather pagans to the faith. The shepherds in the fields as well as the timing of a census by Rome indicates the birth in spring or early summer.

They foresaw that surfers wouldn’t come in to church when the waves were best, and weather warmer, so changed the day.

“Zealot”, and other more accurate histories of the time, reveal that while a nice story, the fiction doesn’t hold up. Maybe why even the books of the New Testament don’t actually agree, or include all the “details” of the other books?

No, we liberals will take our paid vacations, just like the 40-hour weeks and weekends the unions won for us years ago. It’s a family tradition. But, like the cartoon, we are aware of why Christmas is placed where it is. Because, you know, historical evidence. If you go looking for evidence in the Bible for Christmas being on December 25, or even for it being a virgin birth, you’ll come up empty, because those things didn’t get invented until centuries after the fact.

“the season we celebrate is NOW a celebration of His light brought unto the world.”THO it is co-opted by consumerism and there is little of religion left in christmas, it is returning to a winter celebration. But what a bastardization of the pagan celebrations.

If only those who boast as “devoted followers” would only live daily by what he taught, instead of fomenting hate, and clinging to possessions and greed, in the persecution of any who disagree with them. (Making “Christianity” the most divided, and divisive, of “faiths”, with thousands of sects, who disagree on anything but disagreement.)

To the minority within the over a billion adherents, who either directly worship him, or recognize him as an honored prophet in “their book”, Peace. To the hypocrites he himself defined, please, get a life and leave others to live theirs, in peace, and free from fear, of, you and yours.
