Janis is trying to be diplomatic, and not hurt Arlo’s feelings.

It evokes the desire to be kind and diplomatic and to rinse.

Was it evocative of the fall or of a funeral home?

    But, yeah. Not a fan!

This strip evokes memories of a strip in which Tumbleweeds, the cowboy, is sitting on a log when Greasy, the chuckwagon cook, give him a taste of the stew. “What does it need?” Greasy asked. “Throwing Away.” Tumbleweeds replied. In the final panel, Tumbleweeds is still sitting on the log, but with the stew pot upended over his head.

My wife probably knows better than to call any of my cooking “evocative,” because I would almost certainly ask the followup question, “evocative of what?” (As freelancers in the publishing field, we deal with words a lot!)

Reminds me of the time back in the 50’s when I was stationed in California. My mother came out to visit. I had just purchased a big Buick that I was quite proud of. My mother’s comment completely deflated me. She said it was “cute”.
