Holly: Did I mention I don't eat meat anymore?
Val: Since when?
Alix: What about turkey on Thanksgiving?
Holly: Nothing with a face.
Val: Fine. More for the rest of us.
Alix: Our turkey has a FACE? Does it have a NAME??
Val is acting like Holly is on another one of her ‘fads’ but kids are becoming more and more aware these days about where their food comes from. If she wants to be a vegetarian her mother should support her.
As someone who decided to do vegetarian (vegan, but with a little Greek yogurt and such) for an entire year,it IS AMUSING to see so many of the strips on GC doing vegan. Myself, I will be glad to finally have a moderate amount of meat and cheese back in my diet net February. I gave up alcohol at the same time last February and have NOT missed that nearly as much.
The ‘trials and tribulations’ of dealing with today’s pre-teen and teenagers. Glad that is all behind my wife and I. At least, our granddaughter(17)isn’t afflicted with feeling like Holly, she will eat turkey as well as anything her Mother fixes for a meal.
Didn’t Holly go through this phase already? I remember her holding up a piece of bacon to Alix and saying “Babe.” She made dinner once, red beans and rice. When Val asked her where the veggies were, she said she doesn’t like those! Val bought her Tempe and said she could make it taste like anything. Holly replied she wanted it to taste like a hot dog. After about week (cartoon time?) Holly was tired of the whole vegetarian thing.
An excellent reason to demand the immediate removal of Animal Rights Extremist propaganda materials from our schools.
Want the kids to learn where their food comes from? Great idea! Why not get 4H and FFA people in to actually educate them?
The animal rights extremists who are brainwashing our kids know nothing about animals or food production. They are ideologically opposed to owning or using animals for any human purpose whatever – not even wool on our backs or honey in our tea. Not even pets warming our beds. These are people who have never bred an animal, never raised an animal, have only rarely ever owned an animal.
I’m not talking about the vegan pet keeping foot soldiers who are sure that animal rights has nothing to do with their pets. They think they and their pets will get a pass for their support of the vegan diet – but they won’t. Pets are for the chop, too. Already too many of our pet shelters have been converted into pet abbatoirs in the name of furthering Animal Rights.
Why would you go to people who not only don’t approve of any animal use, but also have zero experience dealing with animals for information about animal husbandry? Would you go to a surgeon for horticultural education?
Get the extremist special interest indoctrination materials out of the schools NOW if you want to continue to have access to eggs and dairy, wool, honey, pets and service animals, animal entertainment.
I’ve been a vegetarian for about 35 years. We eat both eggs and cheese. Vegans do not eat either. There is a difference. My doctor (GP) is also a vegetarian and in his opinion “Vegans are crazy”. You really do have to know what you are doing; it’s not all mashed potatoes and carrots.
I think as long as what ever you choose as a life style, the key word is healthy. Making sure that you are getting enough minerals and other stuff the body needs to maintain is the best way. One of my cousins went Vegan for quite a few years, but didn’t get enough calcium and when she was running a marathon, fell and broke her hip (or broke her hip and fell?). The doctors told her that for a 28 year old, she had the bone structure of a 70+ year old woman. So again, as long as what ever diet one picks, it is HEALTHY according to your GP and/or dietician.
This reminds me of….me. A few years ago, I told my parents that I was a vegetarian. This was during a chicken meal. I still want to be a vegetarian, but bacon calls my name.

Well, technically, the turkey doesn’t have a face……. anymore.Might have a name. Mine does. It’s Herb, as in Herb-Roasted Turkey.

There is no such thing as a “food chain”; it’s a food CYCLE. We provide food for the decomposers who eat our remains after we die.
