It was interesting hearing an Iranian citizen, critical of his own current government, still saying the “death to America” translation so widely touted here, doesn’t mean what it’s interpreted as.
A commonality I’ve heard from folks from many nations, including Iraq, Iran, Germany, New Zealand, and others has been: “We LOVE Americans, it’s your government we don’t like.” This has been the case for many decades, under both Republican and Democratic administrations, because BOTH parties support American hegemony, like through “defense” spending, and corporate intrusions into other nations politics, that has long made us NOT seem “friendly” to nations around the world.
