Mr. Cuccinelli ran for governor in Virginia. He did not run against his opponent, Mr. McAuliff. He ran against Obamacare…..as if a governor could do any more about it than he could when he took the individual mandate to the Supreme Court as our Attorney General.

Mark Sanford ran for Senate from South Carolina, not against his opponent, but against Nancy Pelosi, a non-Senator from California. He won. But that was a couple of years ago, and we have to remember all the other winners South Carolina voters have provided us with over the years….

Maybe the electorate is wising up.

I’m still willing to bet the problems with “Obamacare” get straightened out, in less time, and at far less cost, than it took for “victory” and an end to the war in Iraq.

“So tell us, what do YOU think of the American economy as a hole?”

I hope he doesn’t; his posts give me vertigo. I think the American economy as a hole is way too deep for anyone to pretend otherwise.

That would be the whole of America …

Yep. The Canadians have given it up to the fascists too. The worst thing my Canadian friends say about Canadian healthcare is that sometimes they wait too long for elective procedures.

That clearly can’t be allowed to continue. A system this good could corrupt other countries, so it’ll have to go.

I hope my Canadian friends can squash the trend, but sadly, they seem to have fully succumbed to the NeoCon takeover.

" Now think what would have happened if the democrats hadn’t propped up the third party guy."

I wonder if you have proof that Mr. Sarvis was a Democratic stooge.

Regardless, I have imagined. It gave me nightmares. Mr. Cuccinelli is frightening.

The statistic that you cite — health care accounts for 40% of provincial budgets — is meaningless. So what? The percentage could be lowered if the provinces all decided to spend a lot of money on subsidized ice cream in the summer. The question isn’t the percentage, the question is whether or not the costs are reasonable and whether or not the taxpayers are willing to spend the money. Governments in Canada have decided to spend public money on health care, and the public by and large approves. Your source, by the way, is a conservative advocacy group; they assert that the costs are not sustainable, but that’s just because they don’t approve. As it happens, the Canadian health care system is less expensive per capita than the US system, and the outcomes are at least as good and often better. If you’re worried about the costs of health care in the Canadian system, you should be more worried about the cost of health care in the US system.

“The United States spends much more money on health care than Canada, on both a per-capita basis and as a percentage of GDP. In 2006, per-capita spending for health care in Canada was US$3,678; in the U.S., US$6,714. The U.S. spent 15.3% of GDP on health care in that year; Canada spent 10.0%.”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_the_health_care_systems_in_Canada_and_the_United_States

The people I know are quite happy with the Canadian health care system, particularly those who need major treatment, at which point they are very thankful to live in Canada. .Incidentally, November 5th I went in for my annual “free” flu shot. My doctor suggested I arrange for a general physical. On the way out I set up an appointment – on November 20th, a fifteen day wait.
