If congress wanted to be taken seriously about budget cuts, the first thing they would do is cut their own pay. the second thing is cut the pension of retired congressman, senators, and Presidents. It should not be the job of people who make an average of $35000 a year to keep these people rich for the rest of their lives.
most people getting food stamps ARE working, large numbers are family members of military personnel, or are elderly or disabled. (disability is VERY hard to get).
Jesus encouraged everyone to help feed the poor, to share what they had. He did not encourage the wealthy to give themselves more money, nor to take money for work not performed (endless salary 3x the middle class rate for life?)
Jesus was a carpenter’s son, but the Bible also states that he began speaking and teaching philosophies very early. This was considered very important, and the early Jews tithed so that teachers could earn money for their family, be paid according to their service.
Since the minimum wage is so low, because the business model today is to make money no matter what and always keep growing, and payroll is the easiest to cut (very short sighted), people have to eat somehow, even though they may be working one or two jobs. Full time is 32 hrs a week, and many employers will not hire full time. 32 hrs times the minimum wage of $7.55? $241.61 a week. In NJ, the average one bedroom apt is $850 a month.
so, yeah, Congress and the Tea Party asking what would Jesus do and then cutting food stamps is irony, to say the least.
not as endearing as the left’s pure hatred of him until they can tweak what he stood for to support their point..Jesus favored taking care of the poor voluntarily, the left favors it at gunpoint.
Jesus helped the poor with His own money. He did not force others to give Him money to help the poor with. Democrats are great at forcing others to do what they want. Learn to be generous with your own money, and not other people’s money.
