The star account is in Matthew, not Luke. And no natural phenomenon fits it at all well. The Magi rested the day before in Jerusalem, then followed “the star” to Bethlehem, and found that it stopped over Joseph’s house (the stable/manger business is in the Luke version). Now, Bethlehem is south of Jerusalem, and any star that starts the evening in the south then proceeds to set in the southwest, it will never appear straight up.
So, call it a miracle if you wish, but don’t try to make it an actual star, it just doesn’t fit.

Is it possible, at this wonderful time of year, to just believe rather than all the analysis. That’s all children do and they have a great time.
However, spare a thought for the children that can’t for any one of many reasons.
