I don’t see that it would have made sense to create a system capable of handling the one time load we are seeing, but there should have been a plan to stagger the waves of people signing up.We only have… ummm… 170 days or so to get people signed up. I agree with Uncle Joe. A reporter said the administration was expecting around 50k an hour to apply and the sheer numbers of people looking at the site overwhelmed it.That may or may not be true. A friend of mine thinks Republicans are spamming the site to make it crash to which I say, prove it. Such suggestions are a symptom of the distrust and divisiveness inflicting our nation.Jon Stewart was brilliant when he had Ms. Sebilius on and challenged her…He said….“I’m going to download every movie ever made and you apply for health care and let’s see who gets done first.” He took her to task on many issues, including one raised by Republicans… If businesses have a one year delay, why can’t the rest of people, especially the ones who don’t like what they know of the program? He is also, like many of us who comment on GC, a supporter of a single payer system.Seeing how long it’s taking for the gov’t to fix the VA computer mess regarding veteran benefits, I am hesitant to even suggest when this mess might be resolved. But having the gov’t shutdown while needing people to work on the problem can’t be helping.Respectfully,C.
Is this a ten day old cartoon? I had no problem getting on the site yesterday. Registered, signed up, got a better self-employed plan with a significantly lowered premium. People who can’t get on and can’t get it done on their own have the option of getting assistance.
Actually, most of the web sites set up by the states are working pretty well. The Feds didn’t realize the irrational behavior of Republicans who didn’t care about bankrupting their hospital systems, so they got a bit over-extended having to cover for the slacker states. Blue states like Oregon and Colorado are doing very well, as are those red states that took on the responsibility of actually governing (like Kentucky).

Let’s not forget that the website to sign up for Medicare Part D crashed when it was first unleashed to the public. In a few weeks, the bugs were worked out. Short attention spans help make invalid points believable.
Have you noticed? Almost all the articles on how great Obamacare is and how wonderful the roll out of plan sign ups was have disappeared out of the news. By monday I expect them to be nearly invisible.It’s a sure sign that once again Obamacare is the disaster predicted, has failed miserably, and the press is now ignoring it in hopes of covering for their buddy in the White House.
mikefive: yes, getting any new program running smoothly, especially when the flood of data (users) exceeds expectations takes a lot more than people “assume”.
Which, btw: back in ‘95 VA didn’t have much problem with my paper file, because the Army threw away all but three pages of my medical files (like all the “problem records” that eventually DID resolve in service connected disabilities, for some, but not all of the “physical” elements of my disabilities, like hearing loss!) VA is now trying to computerize all the military paper records, and it all has to be transcribed to coded programs. My son’s paper medical file after 13 years, and many “incidents” leading to multiple damage, is close to 700 pages long!! How long does it take, even with scanning, to digitize all that information, if only a few hundred, let alone a few hundred thousand folks are having their records transcribed? VA IS making the effort, but it is NOT a “snap of the fingers” project!
Neither will the ACA be “simple” to handle all the initial filers.
