this is nuts….syria even if their strife and problems are still paying the bills and workers’ wages. but, we can’t because the gop has no control over their party, and their media arm will not even entertain the idea of being wrong.

Independent? Looking at the volume of his work he is almost as far left as they come.

It just goes to show you how blinded they are in their ridged ideology.

Do the people in your state have to buy auto insurance in order to drive on the highways of your state? They do in mine, and nobody seems to be complaining here about that lack of freedom!!

Funny how rightie commentors forget that the House proposed an all Republican budget and wants to add defunding of a constitutionally tested law as part of their “negotiation.”

The freedom to throw a temper tantrum when you cant’ have your way after losing the vote (it became a law), the election (Obama was reelected), and the court case (despite GOP lies, it is Constitutional).

I agree with much of what you say. However, I think it is unfair to blame “those people” for taking away your money. While I recognize that there are way too many free-loading individuals in our society, we must also recognize that corporate welfare creates at least as much waste, and certainly more income inequality, than welfare cheats.

Tens of billions to oil companies in subsidies, allowing agribusiness to have their cows graze on federal land for far less cost than smaller farms must spend, building tanks that no one wants, just to buy votes from a firm that is based in Ohio….all of these and more create a heavy burden on the economy. Blaming only poor people ignores a large portion of the problem.

Both sides have their “takers” lining up at the trough. Both sides protect their takers. So, I will paraphrase: I think Harry Reid, Obama, Mitch McConnell, Nancy Pelosi, and their cadre of takers need to come to the table with some concessions or we are headed for a global recession.

I’m glad we are both prepared, because I do not see any one of them being willing to do anything different.

@David – The Cylon I use as an Avatar is Lucifer and he was hardly emotionless. He was ambitious and that takes emotion.

He was also part of my play on harmless Devils.

Mephistofoles (to spell correctly) had no power unless you gave it to him. You had to be willing to voluntarily sign over your soul in exchange for something you valued more.

Lucifer was ambitious but also imcompetent. Many of his schemes didn’t work.

You are welcome to your opinion but I am fondly reminded of that truism: “Those who are Conservatives before 30 are heartless and those who are Liberals after 40 are brainless.” I’m past 40 thank you very much.

Hmmm, for “contributors” and moderators to consider: I use “terms” to apply to a specific subset of individuals, some of those terms in fact are described in the dictionary of psychiatric terms, as well as the DSM III and DSM IV. They are also parallel descriptors to such “back of the hand” insults as “dem libs”, etc. They in no way approach the vile and offensive twisting of our President’s name, or his origin, that arise constantly from various sectors of our conservative (as Senators and House members include) “friends”.

I am constantly, as above, personally attacked for expressing views, or merely citing facts, or elements of personal knowledge and experience, or the same of friends and family, that I often use to supply information, and credibility to the “discussion”.

I note one of those most often attacking me at a personal level has returned, pleased at least to see that while still anonymous, he’s at least gone back to his old identifier, as I don’t believe in censorship here, unless the behavior becomes egregious and clearly violates terms of agreement.

While I make effort to confine comments to the comic posted, or theme, I am not a total “turn the other cheek” or totally calm Buddhist, in NOT addressing some of these ungracious personal attacks, but usually with “tongue firmly in cheek” or an attempt that the intelligent reader will recognize as irony, or mild sarcasm.

I again see the efforts of a certain “faction” to make it appear that my viewpoints based on facts, and relevant to domestic and foreign policy efforts of the Executive, with constant recalcitrant attacks from members in certain factions of the Legislative minority, are enough to offend them to a degree they feel I should be again “banned” for point of view, expressed much more mildly than in their own posts and attacks.(personal, no less)

This forum DOES address “political” cartoons, not merely “humor of the day”, therefore, comments relative to the artists viewpoints and expressions are indeed quite valid. Over on the other section, such as Nonsequitur, or Peanuts, said “political” views should be at a minimum, unless like with “Doonsbury”, the content does often reflect more complex political or ethical discussion.

For the moderators: (as well as posters) it should be considered when some of those attacked, respond in kind, that it is the ORIGINATOR OF THE INSULT, even when trying to “camouflage” their attack linguistically, who should be “considered”.

To cite the House Chaplain: “enough is enough”. Our Congress, and media, have been divided by radical viewpoints, mostly, but no, not entirely, from extremists on the “right” side of politics. We need cooperation, and yes, discussion in this country, in the government, AND in public participation in discussion of issues such as GoComics provides. But the accusations of “bitterness” or “derogatory”, needs some review, as to actual content, and the intent of the “whiners”.

Final point is directly to the ‘toon above: “Freedom” is dependent upon rule of law. Current Republican “leadership” in the House of Representatives IS holding the nation bound and hostage, because they actually refuse to negotiate, or support the nation, by simply passing a simple, clean, resolution to fund our government, and trying to provide alternative legislation to make their “Point”. Of course, that they’ve done that over 40 times already, and failed to get their “ice cream” by screaming like children deprived of their pacifier, with parents of greater wisdom who follow rules, and apply proper parenting, is illustrative of our REAL situation today.

@Adrian – We live in a society where the creator can charge whatever the market will bear. If you think you are being overcharged for a product then I suggest you locate a producer who will make it for less or make it yourself if you think you can do it more cheaply.

That is the worst kind of tripe to claim you are being overcharged by the 1% therefor you are entitled to take from them through the tax and redistibute function of the Federal government.

You don’t get only up side of Freedom. You aren’t entitled to be made whole if you become sick unless you pay for the medical insurance that will take care of you in that case.

You have a terriblly bad case of “I’m entitled”.

And how dare you say it won’t hurt them that much to give up more.

For those of us paying taxses and seeing them all siphoned away for gimmees I can tell you it is very painful.

My children could go to a better college if I wasn’t carrying a bunch of deadbeats.

Local charities would get more money from my wife and I if it wasn’t being siphoned away to help the deadbeats who feel no shame at reaching into the wallets of taxpayers.

^David: interesting chart, and reflects “personality tests” I’ve taken in many workshops over the years. It is interesting that “most” folks become more “conservative” with age, it’s the dictionary, not “political” definition!

I’ve usually over the years since ‘Nam, come out about like you or Tsipras, though my ideal would be more like the current Dalai Lama, I, like he, agree to moments of “temper”, being after all “human”. It’s often not observed that even many in law enforcement are NOT so far up the ladder of “authoritarian”, especially when engaged more often in protection, or literal search and rescue, as saving lives is a key element of the job, not “punishing” people!

my concern is that so many “TEA party” folks are between Netanyahu, and Assad! (They just won’t admit it!) and are NOT “libertarian”. This is especially true of the most “religious” among them, which is sad, indeed. Really like the new Pope Francis!!

This issue IS about Freedom.Obamacare is the 2014 Slavery to Life/Death Federal Control.Thank God for the Tea Party members elected to Congress.Thank the American people for clearly showing in the Polls that we DO NOT WANT and DID NOT WANT what the Democrats FORCED on America without any GOP elected members’ votes!-If Obamacare is not stopped now, we will be guilty of failure to Keep our Constitutional Freedoms! And all America will share the sufferings of being oppressed and “panel-ed” out of medical treatments when bureaucrats say “NO” to selected citizens…the elderly…the aged…the ones not favored by the political party in the majority.

“If obamacare is so great, why isn’t Obama enrolled?”You’re joking, right? You do understand that what you call “Obamacare” isn’t actually an insurance package, right? It’s a set of reforms aimed at the health insurance industry. Obama, Congress, and the other assorted federal leaders already have health insurance through the federal government which already meets the ACA guidelines. What exactly are you expecting them to enroll into?

TM, you have a knack for making enemies where none exist. Please, please read more carefully…1. “Glad you at least admitted to that last part” How does “admitting” apply here? I stated.2. If you read more carefully or could see beyond your own thoughts, I said in Illinois we do not have to buy insurance but can be self-insured.3. Yes, I do think we should all at least attempt to be responsible for our own expenses. Again, making enemies where one does not exist.4. I did not say nor do I claim to have a solution. I’m saying we have not yet found an equitable solution.5. “Or continue to allow people to die because they can’t afford medical care?” Again, you really need to read more carefully. I said it was obscene that people needlessly die. I cannot imagine why you attack like this.

Shouldn’t…I mean metaphorically, of course- Uncle Sam have TWO heads, or one head split down the middle, and the one side says, “NO OBAMACARE, THIS IS ABOUT FREEDOM!” to the other half of himself (which has the glazed incoherent look of a Lib on OPM).

^David: this is exactly what disturbs me about the “twist” on what’s happened in the TEA party. The claim to be “Libertarians” is totally fraudulent with those now marching to the tune of the Koch Contingent of radicals, religious and totally pro-corporate dictatorship for America. Yes, folks, that IS Fascism.

Come and get ‘em says, “If you cannot see that there is a difference between owning an automobile and simply breathing. Then you are too blind to see.” Yes, there’s a difference. Not everyone drives, so those who don’t drive don’t need auto insurance. Everyone breathes, so everyone needs health insurance.

Because of misinformation from the right, many Americans are wary of Obamacare but in favor of the Affordable Care Act. NAd if this is indeed the most important issue of our time, enough to shut down the government, why isn’t Romney president?Rather than focus on job creation and the economy, Republicans have voted forty times to repeal ACA. Republicans have put forth budgets that 100% support their causes (those agenda of the super-wealthy) and no one else’s. Where is the “negotiation”?That’s a rhetorical question since I won’t get a thoughtful answer here.
