A paycheck from us. Campaign donations from people who hope you are acting on their behalf and even larger donations from people he hopes to work for when he leaves office, and even larger ‘donations’ to the superpacs whose “information ads” will scare voters into voting against their own best interests and turn them against their neighbors who are equally frightened by the information ads coming from the other side.Essential? To quote from “The Princess Bride”, I don’t think that word means what you think it does.Respectfully,C.

I bet the shutdown would get resolved a lot sooner if Congress & the President didn’t get paid until it was resolved.

I agree with your post, Baslim. There is a contract with America in place, it is the oath of office. I found it at the Senate.gov site and include it here.^I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.^It is my belief that too many legislators are in violation of their oaths, but I doubt anyone will be punished.Respectfully,C.

Compared to Boehner and the Tea piddles, Nero was a piker.

Congress should forgo pay when other federal workers and contractors, like myself, do.
