Several weeks ago we had enough money to bomb Syria. But NOW we don’t have enough to let WWII veterans see their own open-air memorial???

There is no such thing as a “civil” war. War between the States was much more accurate. And as too many commentators in GC enjoy showing, very little ‘civil discourse’. Just a War of Words.Insults are easy. Compromise requires thought.Respectfully,C.

MStevenson58: Incorrect. Boehner has not brought the “Clean” bill to the floor, because there are already enough votes to pass it, and he is toadying to the Tea Party. He is the immediate cause of the shutdown. The Tea Partiers have insisted that Obama give up funding on Obamacare, which, you should recall, has been passed by ALL THREE branches of government; they are actually behaving quite unconstitutionally in the Congress by forcing Obama to give more power to Congress than they have had. The inflexibility here is entirely on the side of the GOP. Obama’s job is to enforce the laws; Obamacare IS the law. This minority of Congress is trying to do the equivalent of a “nullification,” which was declared unconstitutional over a century ago.DespisedbytheLeft: A more accurate point would be that this is the THIRD time Obama has had to cancel a trip to Asia because of domestic problems — and this one was preventable. We are being made to look both unreliable and idiotic around the world by a handful of idiots in Congress — all GOP idiots, just to be clear — and China is taking advantage of that. At one time conservatives made us fight in Asia so we didn’t break our promises; now a small number of so-called conservatives are forcing us to break promises internationally AND around the world just to try and force their inappropriate desires on one law.Keep up, guys.Snoopy_Fan: The GOP members of Congress exempted the armed forces, from the shutdown because they knew it cost them votes last time. Simple hypocrisy in action.

Offguard: nice to see there’s another subject you know absolutely nothing about, but will spout the right-wing blather and bombast, irregardless.

I know it upsets you, but my decades of experience with NPS and Public Land management, and having gone through “shut downs” as well as “RIFs”, give me insight into the reality of how badly “conservative” policies and budget cuts have harmed resources, veterans, and the general public at large.

BTW, folks here don’t believe it, but as a social liberal, and fiscal conservative, while both parties HAVE screwed up over the years, it has been “conservative” REPUBLICAN administrations, Congresses, and political appointees, who’ve done by far the most damage to our economy, resources, and nation over the last 40 years or so…

Ah, the “sweeties” in the House now propose giving back pay to furloughed workers (again, like last times), making the “Exercise of choice” of Republicans, even dumber!!

The civil war was over states rights. This is over… “I’m not sure even what that is”.

I see you bypassed my post. No wonder, since it rather undercut your entire argument.
