The prospect of Americans getting health care is indeed horrifying. -Certainly it’s something worth holding the government and the economy hostage over.
Should we have paid for a system designed to meet a one time event? In that case, let’s build a 100 foot seawall around Florida. In two weeks, the site will be keeping up with the load.
Unfortunately the cartoon is very accurate (at least as far as California is concerned). A number of the younger people I teach and in my family have asked me to research the program. At the part of the website where you can compare plans and sign up, it crashes. Been that way for 2 days. Glitch? It doesn’t do a lot to instill faith in the program. Obama sounded ridiculous comparing this to an Apple roll out of OS7.
Mine is fine. I took less pay and worked hard to get a job that offered good health benefits. Now I will have to pay for my health insurance and other people’s too. What’s next? Car insurance? That’s something that most people must have. How about life insurance? That’s pretty important too.The disabled and very poor already have healthcare through Medicaid. There’s no reason the middle class (who is already barely getting by under Obama) should be expected to pay for other people’s insurance.
“Then why do Obama and Reid keep rejecting the compromises made by the GOP?”The Democrats “compromised” heavily during the creation of the bill…and by “compromise” I mean “give in to the Republican only to get nothing in return”. The centerpiece of the original bill, single-payer, was removed, and many changes were made to benefit the insurance corporations. After that, Congress passed the bill, the President signed it into law, and the Supreme Court upheld it as Constitutional, and Obama was re-elected. Now the Republicans want more unilateral concessions from the Democrats, despite still having given nothing…they didn’t even provide a single vote in its passage.
So tell us again about how the Democrats need to compromise now?
Who said if you work you should get rewarded? You should get paid, period. And what the market says you’re worth. If you do a great job, then either you take home job satisfaction or some sort of reward in the form of a bonus. You don’t, you get fired. At least that’s how it’s supposed to work.
I think the whole thing is a money scam. They plain in making a lot of money off people paying the fine. I am going to have to pay the fine. Affordable for who? I spent all last night checking on what it would cost me. It would cost me 1/3 of my take home pay each week. I may get some back at tax time but I can not count on that happening. How many of you can stand to lose 1/3 of your take home pay each week?
“He posed the possibility that since the original draft was likely double-spaced, with page breaks and headers it may have been 2200 pages, but that the official final document was only 974 pages long.”That’s probably very close to the truth. You can download a 2409 page version of it here:http://www.hhs.gov/healthcare/rights/law/patient-protection.pdfYou can see that it is double-spaced with wide margins, like many court documents. I scrolled to a random page, 1588, and note that it has only 25 lines, with each line holding only 4-5 words each, or about 125 words on the page. That’s far less than the posts Jack made complaining of the ACA’s length.
OCTOBER 1ST, 2013!!!The Democrats bring health care insurance to millions of uninsured Americans. The Republicans shut down the government, costing us $300 million a day.
“With Obamacare, they are holding a gun to your head!”Sorry, when you said “private corporations” I thought you were referring to private corporations. And you’re wrong in any case. No gun was held to my head. Like the majority of Americans I had health coverage prior to the ACA, and I still have it now.
Regardless of the merits of the ACA, I find the doublethink of its opponents remarkable. Basically, the House GOP regards anything but TOTAL SURRENDER RIGHT THIS MINUTE as a ‘compromise’. The ‘compromises’ offered so far have been (1) kill ACA now by defunding it, (2) kill ACA for a year and we’ll finish it off later.

If you go to the emergency room they send you a bill. If you don’t pay it collection agencies call nonstop.
