Methinks certain people need to read this article:[]http://www.economist.com/node/16064321[]A few years back, the government of France implemented a quota system which required that a certain percentage of seats in any given boardroom be marked off as female-only. []The idea was that this would fight what was perceived to be sexism in the business world by finally – albeit by force – putting more women on the boards of corporations headquartered in France.[]Thing is, what the government didn’t realize was that France as a nation has a shortage of women with the education and experience / background generally required for someone to sit on a board. []As such, a lot of corporations in the nation didn’t even bother trying to compete for these women. Instead, they took to hiring the wives & girlfriends of prominent individuals (such as politicians, investors, and whatnot). Thus, instead of promoting gender equality, the French government instead wound up promoting cronyism.
