I used to like Cruz until I found out how strongly anti-LGBT he is. He may kindly roast in the nether regions of Lucifer’s Domain.

Why did he vote for the bill against which he spoke for 21 hours? And why did he read a book where a person stubbornly refuses to try something until he has put himself and many other character into deep water where, after finally trying it, he liked it?There are still good moderate Republicans in office; not all have been purged by the RNC, but Cruz is not even a Republican/Conservative patriot. He appears to many, even in his own party, to be a one man show using his position in order to promote himself into the Presidency. Our system of gov’t was designed so that intelligent people could, through committees and debate, create legislation that would make our nation stronger, united, and inclusive. The two party system that has evolved has, as predicted by Geo. Washington, made us weaker, divided, and in the case of Mr. Cruz, self destructive in favor of self aggrandizement.Respectfully,C.

Cruz is a McCarthy-style demagogue. The GOP has been engaged in destruction of the American economy because they think it will benefit their party. Ted Cruz is engaged in the destruction of the Republican party because he thinks it will benefit him personally. Watch your wallet around any of these liars.

Howgoesit, PAJ?I’m always glad to agree with you. I have to take this opportunity to state I was unaware that Jon Stewart said something very similar to what I wrote. That was not plagiarism on my part, just coincidence. It amuses me how many folks think you are an conservative extremist.Take care, neighbor.Sincerely,C.

“It may look like Ted Cruz is standing alone out there, but the fact is, he’s one Republican who is doing exactly what he was elected to do. He’s fighting for free markets and individual choice. "

True enough, he is doing what his constituents elected him to do. He is one of the few elected officials to do so. I may not agree with him, but I will give him props for being himself.

Having said that, free-market capitalism brought us predator lending, clear-cutting forests, strip-mining, the sub-minimum wage, and a health insurance system that has ended up causing a significant part of our population to become sicker mostly because of income disparity. No, I’m not a socialist, and I don’t recommend re-distribution. I am a realist and a health-care provider who has watched as people who have the means to afford insurance (or whose employers have chosen to offer it) are healthier, and those who do not are less well off. I see that in 2011 there were $39 Billion in unpaid emergency room charges nationwide, and know that a better system would have cost us much less.

If we want to be a healthy, productive society, we cannot continue to be a society in which one heart attack can stand between comfort and homelessness.

There is a fallacy in the mindset of many people, and that is that hard work provides financial security. I know many people who work much harder, but for whatever reason they get much less reward. Example? How much does Vanna White get for dressing up and turning letters? I’m sure you work harder than she does, yet I’m willing to bet she makes a lot more money than you do. And let’s consider how much her contribution to society in general stacks up against yours. It does no one any good to say that everyone in difficult circumstances deserves it, and that is what many, including Mr. Cruz, seem to believe.

I will agree that, if people were honorable, no regulation or oversight would be necessary. I submit that, despite millennia of religious dogma, people cannot be trusted to be honorable, especially when money and power are at stake. Until then, we will need to be vigilant, unless you want to return to the days of survival of the fittest.
