out door cats(those who can come into the house) have a much longer life expectancy the 2 or 3 years. We have had many cats over the years, one was hit by a car and lost a leg(lived to be 17) and another was attacked by a coyote at 16. They did not want to be in the house all of the time, and still lead good lives compared to being feral.
