But I’m reliably told that eventually it will hit bottom and then things will get better. We better hope that ambulance isn’t over the proverbial Marianias Trench however…

Harley said, “Oh please, get off it already there are many alternatives to Obamacare.” That’s right. A single-payer system is a good alternative to Obamacare. What’s your suggestion?

I’m not sure I’m the one you’re referring to, but I have said that I don’t understand why that didn’t happen years ago. There are lots of good systems out there. I’m most familiar with the Canadian system, which is hardly perfect, but which IMO is much better than the US system, or lack of system. But I don’t know much about the German system or the French system or the Swiss system, and any of these may be better yet. Why is it that the US alone can’t get it together to figure out how to deliver health care?+I gather that most people think Medicare works reasonably well?? If so, one solution would have been to lower the age for Medicare every year, until eventually everyone would be covered. Probably too late for that approach now.

My suggestion to an alternative to Obamacare is:

    1. Make all expenses for medical care 100% deductable off one’s taxes.

    2. Allow each individual and an employer for their employees to open a before tax medical expense account. Put no cap, or a very high one on its size. For employer ones allow for these to split 50-50 remaining year end funds in the account between employer and worker as an incentive not to be sick or abuse the account on the worker’s part, and as incentive for the employer to set these accounts up.

    3. Provide health / medical insurance only for catastrophic coverage with say a $5000 deductable for everybody nationally. The payment would be small and both individuals and most employers would pay in to cover the cost. Employers could pay in out of the year end account split of their employees medical accounts in pre-tax dollars.

    4. The government would get zero say in doctor and other provider choices.

    5. The plan is movable from one state to another.

There, 1 page versus 2700 and it would work.

People going to the emergency room is the fault of the socialists because their regulations mandated on the health care people have made health care so costly that the only way some people can afford health care is to go to the emergency room. What regulations are those? The only people who use the ER are the uninsured. Used to be most anyone with a job had insurance. Employers have been offering coverage to fewer & fewer people for decades, so I doubt the ACA is to blame. Your solution is to send hard working Americans to Venezuala if their employer won’t offer insurance? Nice.

If memory serves it involved convening a moderate sized bi-partisan panel to study healthcare system worldwide and provide input. That’s exactly what we did in crafting the ACA. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/13/despite-being-wooed-by-ob_n_258347.htmlhttp://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2009/0808/senates-gang-of-six-key-to-healthcare-reformI’ll be the first to admit that the ACA needs work. Rather than fight to fix it, the House GOP has decided it must be stopped at all costs. You can’t convince me that many in the House GOP would agree on any replacement.

Obama and his ilk will continue to be reelected if their fan base can get free food stamps, cell phones, and health care (Actually, not free. Taxpayers pay for it.)

I wasn’t defending Obamacare. I’m one of those who think it should be replaced by something that does the job better. I think Enoki’s plan is worse, not better. I want everyone covered, automatically, and I don’t see why there should be any link to employment. A single payer system funding through the tax system will do the job just fine, but I’m open to other suggestions.

The rest of the G8 cover their entire populations with 10.5% of GDP. America spends 18% of GDP. If it had Canada’s system it would not have a deficit but it has greed heads like the Koch brothers with their hands on the levers of power instead. By “levers of power” I mean the Republican Party of Stooges for the one percent.
