my mother in law had a avocado colored rotary dial phone until she died in 2006. She had that phone from back in the 60’s when they first came out with colored phones. She used to get so mad when she called and they had that push 1 or push 2 phone tree and she couldn’t. I once called a company for her and flat told them that if they wanted to talk to her they were gonna have to call her or give me a number she could call from her rotary phone so she didn’t have to go through that phone tree. I did offer my phone for her to use but she refused.
I use a push button phone as a back up to my cordless set. if the power goes away, the hard wired land line will still work ‘cause the phone company provides the phone power. I live in a rural area, so that’s a good feature.
I remember having a yellow rotary phone in the kitchen. The cord was so long because my Mom wanted to keep doing the house work as she talked. She would end up with the cord wrapped around her several times.

It’s a long story. But an (unnamed) phone company once refused my payment for a hard-wired avocado dial phone. I paid, but they sent the money back.

Growing up, that’s all I had and this was in the 80’s, but the house was much older than that.

Poor kid wouldn’t know what to do with a rotary phone.

I still have a working black rotary phone in my garage. Also a working red wall phone in the basement. Don’t have to run to get the phone call.
