Plant a radish, get a radish, not a Brussels sprout; That’s why I like vegetables, you know what they’re about…

If you want to know whether it’s a weed or a flower, pull it out. If it grows back, it’s a weed.

It’s a weed if it it isn’t indigenous to the region. Otherwise, I am happy with it. Though I must admit, I wouldn’t mind a little less poison ivy in the yard.

A weed is just an unloved flower.

Our local chain of gas stations gave out packets of “wild flowers” with each fill-up of gas. My father planted the seeds by the side of his house. Some of them sprouted, but especially vigorous was one plant with small, deeply lobed leaves. I watched it grow and had a nagging suspicion.. I said, “Dad, that looks like marijuana.” “Nah, can’t be. I got it at the gas station.” So I let it get a little bigger, and finally got the encyclopedia and showed him a picture. I explained that marijuana does grow wild in the area, and a seed might have gotten into the packet by mistake. (Most likely, some wise guy slipped it in.).He zipped outside and yanked that plant out and threw it into the field. It cracked me up, but I knew better than to tease him about it. Even if it wasn’t really mj (could it have been some sort of elegantissima?) I got a good laugh out of it.

My neighbor went on vacation and asked her friend’s husband to weed her vegetable garden. He pulled out all the okra and left the weeds.

My dad used to transplant windflowers from the woods into his backyard. Ticked the heck out of the horticulture professor next door when they went to seed….

Hey, untrue! Ever had okra in (mmmm) Chicken Gumbo? And if you get a good variety of okra, it is very prolific. Just wear long sleeves when you pick. Next thing, you’ll tell me you don’t like (mmmm) parsnips …

Yeah I have a new house so when the flowers began to grow I didn’t realize some were a weed. When I realized they were a weed I also realized that they probably choked out the flowers that were there last year. Some were trying to grow around them and I looked at old pictures I took last year when we moved in. Sure enough those were the flowers that were supposed to be there. :(

The tiny English daisies that grew wild in our backyard ( not in the garden but in the grass) moved with us to the new biuse. And again when my parsnts moved to where they sre now. Mom dug those “weeds” out of the lawn and used them as filler in the garden. .I think the neighbour’s garter snakes brought over the original seeds.

My garden is full of weeds; that’s because they come from the next door garden which is not maintained..If I lived in the US would I be fined for the apathy of the owners of the house next to mine?
