Where did that term come from? It’s more like head-heading. .Although the winner does become the boss, which in my personal experience does involve a head and a butt.

A young bull and an old bull are at the top of a hill, gazing at a herd of cows in the valley. The young bull says, “Let’s run down there and get us one of those heifers!” The old bull says, “Let’s WALK down there and get us ALL of them.”

No butts about it,butting heads over this is a lot of bull.
