All empires have been stung for their hubris, and continued to try to ignore it until their hive collapsed. Perhaps there’s a metaphor in the current recurrence of colony collapse disorder among bees, caused, as we are now fairly sure, by the use of an herbicide produced and distributed by a corporate chemical empire …
Great cartoon – sums up the situation nicely. One can only ask – if Assad is the monster he appears to be, where are the other Middle East countries? The US should not be expected to do their jobs for them.
Thanks for taking up the argument regarding PAJ. I was very busy at work yesterday. You did a fine job of representing my point of view even though we’ve never met or talked.FWIW, I nearly always follow a policy of “don’t feed the trolls,” (which PAJ most certainly fits the definition of <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)>), but some days the idiocy and diversion are so irksome, I call them out. This is a particularly insightful cartoon with a great metaphor, so I was piqued by PAJ’s trollishness and called him out. Most definitely my bad and I apologize for it.

Don’t forget the American Revolution; that was a dark day in history.

OT and stupidity personified. Keep putting your limited intelligence on display. It’s very entertaining.
