    @David BanksDavid, what do you mean by yellow bean sauce? I’ve never found it in my Thai and Chinese markets.

    yellow bean sauce, aka soybean sauce, soybean paste – part of northern Chinese cuisine, notably in and around Beijing. You can probably substitute hoisin sauce or sweet bean sauce, although the yellow bean paste is salty rather than sweet. On a side note, Google is your friend ;)
