Dems love trying to rag on a Rep for going to war for all of the wrong reasons (they think), but when their guy does the same thing, somehow it’s different? Hypocrites all.
Republican leaders are being very supportive of the President’s position, though they are highly critical on how the POTUS came to his decisions. It is hard to see their support as anything more than protecting their own interests when they have one of their own in the Oval Office. By supporting this President, they firm the foundation for future Presidents.Too bad they, and their Democrat counterparts, can’t put the same effort into their stated goals of 2010 and show some laser focus on creating jobs for non military businesses. Respectfully,C.
For all of you who missed his speech in 2007..all the troops in the world won’t be able to force Shia, Sunni and Kurd to sit down at a table, resolve their differences and forge a lasting peace. In fact, adding more troops will only push this political settlement further and further into the future
A government of imbeciles (a full complement of which the U.S government maintains at all times, in war and peace) works only when one imbecile has no greater voice than the another. It is on the basis of that assumption that the U.S. constitution was composed: to be imbecile-proof, especially in limiting the power, authority and unilateral actions of the imbecile at the top. If government were devoid of imbeciles, this story might be quite different; but here we enter into a world of fantasy and wild conjecture. From a Demon’s Nest of Sentiments, by Brooke McEldowney
David: the transcript of ACTUAL words used IS important. The point on humanitarian aid, and the fact the “whole bunch of chemical weapons” changing the calculus, not MANDATING an automatic response, is also important.
While I don’t support military action in other peoples’ civil wars, the fact Obama was discussing re-calculating an appropriate response, not just jumping in “whole hog” is an important difference from our actions in Grenada, Panama, Iraq, Afghanistan, and back to Iran/Contra where we only broke the law to finance the killing.
