Why do some of you think that big businessmen are entitled to squeeze whatever they can out of their workers, but workers are not entitled to squeeze whatever they can out of their businesses? It’s called free enterprise. If unions can convince employers to pay more money, good for them. If employers can convince unions to take less money, good for them.Keeping in mind that in this country, the deck is stacked in favor of the employers. Workers’ wages have been stagnant for something like 30 years, but CEO pay has skyrocketed. And in case you want to say “that’s just business,” the same is NOT true in Europe. CEO pay is far more reasonable compared to their workers.
How many hours do the CEOs actually put in? And how much of the money they invest was actually earned with their own two hands? This is what is meant by the phrase " you didn’t build that",but it looks like you’ve swallowed the “free market is pure and unsullied” hogwash.
Up until Reagan a rising economy was a tide that lifted all boats. Not any more unless you are in the top ten percent. The top one percent have seen their incomes go up several hundred percent. The burger flippers have seen theirs decline in real terms.
It is the loss in purchasing power created by falsely reporting inflation that is the core of the problem, but no one wants to address this fiasco as all of Congress was in on it.
Fortune 500 CEOs make over 200 times as much as their average employee. In 1950, that number was 20 times employee salaries. Are today’s CEOs that much better than CEOs in 1950 or are today’s employees that much worse?
The VOLUME of business, and cost of living in a region should dictate mandatory minimum wages, NOT an across the board edict that doesn’t consider those elements. That means BUSINESS must be able to afford salaries, that EMPLOYEES must have to survive in the local “community”.
Living in small town America, and having lived in big cities, and either done business, or known businessmen, and employees, in both “regions”, it always amazes me that our nation is so incapable of considering rational assessments, from EITHER side, of almost ANY “argument”.
“Liberal”, means accepting information, and even new ideas, and evaluating the facts. “Conservative” means sticking to the “old ways”, known as dogma, irregardless of outcome. So, yep, call me "Liberal’.
But, being a “social liberal”, and “economic conservative”, which means looking at the real worlds of both those factors, isn’t approved by EITHER SIDE in today’s political scene.
“F” ’em all until they sit down and look at reality, whether discussing Burger King, or the hegemony of the U.S. being “King of the world” militarily!
It would take a book to explain all the evil in this comment. Anyone working fast food is not entry level after 6 mos. Every job in any business require skill. Did you say that fast food workers should not be allowed to raise a family?
“First, When Dems win you will have the $15 hamburger.” If you are paid well enough, $15 burgers aren’t a problem.
Second, Then the Government will attempt to run the business and you will be eating Michell Obama’s Recipes (while she eats ribs and fries) WTF, I’m laughing again. Oh, and what is bad about her recipes?
Newsflash: No one who is looking for a 6% return will bother starting a business. They would in fact, invest in bonds. How many Fortune 500 CEOs started the business with their own money? Most people who start a business find investors or borrow. Most people who work at a company they started, aren’t making 200 times what their employees make, either.
Just another note on the kings and queens of industry: Anyone notice how much a Condi Rice, Lynne Cheney, Kissinger, Dick Cheney, or others who go to a single board meeting a year, for maybe an hour, get paid for the use of their names, not expertise?? Hundreds of thousands of dollars an hour is a pretty darn good “salary”!
Kind of reminds you of Hollywood. Always looking for tax breaks to film here or there. Can’t budget filming here or there because the taxes are so high. But yet telling the real world to pay up or we will strike and protest till you submit to our extortion. But! its ok, for a more health conscious diet I will be cooking at home from now on.

You forgot to use the word “moron”. You never have a comment without that word. You also left out “Tea Party”. Are you slipping?

if you don’t pay a living wage you shouldn’t be allowed to hire people, maybe you can get your relatives to work the plantation for you.
