I read everyone’s comments and i get the opinions. But how do any explain the reason why John Muir are depicted overlooking the forest fire? I guess I don’t know who that is.
Actually, one of the photos we used to document the need for the prescribed fire in the Mariposa Grove was of John Muir and Galen Clark in the grove, showing the need for fire. After our burns, the health of the big trees was greatly improved, and the area looked much again as it did to Muir and Clark!
It is the damming of Hetch Hetchy that made John weep, and still would today! He would fully support the use of fire. Only minor thinning IS being used in the northern grove to lower flame heights from heavy fuels, which is what we also did in the Mariposa Grove, about 40 years ago.
