This is a big disaster. The half-life on anything nuclear is terrible. meanwhile the people eat radiated food and mutations start running rampant if they haven’t already.I saw on you-tube some of the people from near chernobyl and it was frightening.
How well does our nuclear emergency response capabilities compare with theirs?-I hope it’s a helluva lot better than our oil spill response capabilities.-Maybe the Japanese neglected the essential media blitz process.
^^Irradiated milk, strawberries, raspberries, last dang near forever, and it’s become common around the world! Yes, food preservation has “advanced”!(?)
Fun fact. While spent fuel is radioactive, it is mostly from having concentrated what is normally spread very thin, there is uranium, plutonium, cesium essentially in atomic portions of all rocks.
The small amount released into the ocean will be excessive in nearby area, However spread across the pacific it is highly unlikely
Wasn’t Three Mile Island owned by a utility company? And the Davis-Besse plant near Toledo has been shut down many times due to problems. Again, a utility-owned plant. And I really have a problem with security at these plants when workers can smuggle goldfish into a “secure” area, and no one can figure out how they got there until someone confessed!

Before I moved to Sacramento, it pleased me that SMUD shut down nuclear power plants.
